GETTING TO TULI WILDERNESS

Tuli Wilderness is located in the Northern Tuli Game Reserve, approximately a 6-hour drive from Johannesburg and 3-hours from Polokwane.

It is the perfect way to start or end your trip to Botswana and is a destination in itself!

Platjan and Pont Drift are our two closest borders (approximately 30 km from either of them, to our reception).

Serolo Safari Camp is approximately 550km from both Johannesburg and Gaborone, with drive times of around 6-hours from both capitals. The camp is approximately 4 hour’s drive from the northern gates of the Kruger National Park.

Guests will check-in via Serolo Safari Camp, even if they are staying at other camps.

Transfers between Tuli Wilderness and the Borderposts can be arranged at an additional cost. Please liaise with us upon booking.

DIRECTIONS TO TULI WILDERNESS

  • Depart Johannesburg on the N1 North towards Polokwane.

  • Continue past Polokwane and follow signs for Alldays.

  • Arrive at the T-junction in Alldays and turn right and immediately left onto the R572 to Swartwater. Approximately 4kms outside of Alldays, turn right onto a gravel road – signposted “Platjan”.
  • You’ve seen the last of tarred roads now. It is approximately 35kms to Platjan Border Post.

  • Cross at Platjan Border Post. There is a low-level bridge crossing the Limpopo River at this border post. There is a charge of around P 152.00 per vehicle for entry into Botswana – please ensure that you have all of the necessary vehicle papers and permission letters to take your vehicle across the border. Only Botswana Pula (BWP) and credit card may be used as a means of payment at the border.

  • This border is quieter than Martin’s Drift. Allow 30–60 minutes for formalities.

  • Once through the Botswana side, you will arrive at a T-junction, approximately 8kms from Platjan, turn right here and it is 26km to the Tuli Wilderness entrance.

  • On the way to us, you will cross straight over a T-junction (which is the tar road heading to Bobonong). At the Tuli Wilderness signboard on the right, turn in and follow the small road for 2kms until you reach our Security Gate, where you will be directed to Serolo Safari Camp – the check-in reception and parking area.

  • Drive slowly — the area is unfenced and wildlife may be encountered on the roads.

Final Notes

  • Fuel up before leaving Alldays as there are limited services beyond the border.

  • A 4×4 vehicle is recommended, particularly during the rainy season.

  • Please avoid driving at night.

  • Driving from Gaborone or Maun, guests should head to Selebi-Phikwe and then on to Bobonong.
  • Keep to the main road in Bobonong until you reach a roundabout, where you turn right.
  • Follow this road to a T-junction where you turn right at a signboard reading “Mathathane”.
  • Continue on this road and turn left at signboards reading ‘Thune Dam” and ‘Mashatu 100km’.
  • Follow this road passing through Molalatau en route and continuing straight past the turnings for Mathathane and Mothlabaneng.
  • After 62km you will reach a T-junction, where you turn left onto a dirt road signed to Lentswe-le-Moriti.
  • After about 7.5 km, you will see the Tuli Wilderness signboard on your right – turn in here and Tuli Wilderness is about 2km down the dirt track from this point.

A 4×4 vehicle is not a necessity to reach our reception (except in very rare circumstances during the wet season), however, travel in low sedan vehicles is not recommended in the wet season (October to April) – please confirm with us before travel to check on the road conditions if travelling at this time of year.

  • After passing through the border entry, you will arrive at a T-junction, approximately 8kms from Platjan, turn right here and it is 26km to the Tuli Wilderness entrance.
  • On the way to us, you will cross straight over a T-junction (which is the tar road heading to Bobonong).  At the Tuli Wilderness signboard on the right, turn in and follow the small road for 2kms until you reach our Security Gate, where you will be directed to Serolo Safari Camp for Check-In and parking.

  • After 700m, turn right at the T-junction. A further 650m, turn left at the signboards marked Thune Dam / Pont Drift. Follow this road straight for 65km (passing the Thune Dam wall) until you get to a T-junction where the tar road ends.
  • Turn left onto the gravel road.
  • Turn right after 8km at the signboard marked ‘Serolo Safari Camp’ and follow the track for another 2kms, turning right again at the small Serolo signboard and the camps is just a short distance down this track.
