MOHAVE BUSH CAMP

MOHAVE BUSH CAMP

The unfenced Mohave Bush Camp is a small and private rustic bush camp, located deeper in our reserve in a wildlife-dense plains area, on the banks of the Mohave River.

The Camp is rented out on an exclusive use basis, irrespective of number of persons but up to a maximum of 10 persons. Guests can choose between self-catering or full-catered options.

Camp attendants are on hand to lay the tables, wash up dishes, make fires, light lanterns and undertake all housekeeping duties.

ACCOMODATION

Mohave Bush Camp has a central lounge and deck, along with a splash pool which overlooks the waterhole for all guests to enjoy.

A fully equipped kitchen is available, and the Camp is serviced daily by our friendly and dedicated Camp Attendants.

A firepit and braai area offers guests a place to relax in the evenings, reminiscing over the days events and listening to the sounds of the night.

A solar system powers the camp with 220V electricity – there are electric fridges and freezers in the kitchen, and shower water is heated by a combination of gas geysers and donkey boilers.

Lions are common in this area, and game such as Elephants, Leopard, Hyaena, Bushbuck, Bush Pig, Warthog and African Wild Cat may possibly be seen drinking at the waterhole just below the camp.

This remote and wild Camp offers accommodation in 5 units overlooking the dry Mohave River, all of which sleep two persons (with the option of adding additional camp stretchers for children).

Two of the units are ‘tent-like’ with en-suite open-air ablutions and glass sliding doors allowing views of the bush, whilst the other 3 units are hut-shaped and have en-suite open-air ablutions. All rooms have a ceiling fan and an electric light.

The night sounds heard at Mohave are magical and game such as Elephants, Lion, Brown and Spotted Hyaena, Civet, Genet and African Wild Cat may possibly be seen in and around the camp. The Mohave River is a hotspot for game movements and the remoteness of the camp ensures that you will truly feel that you are deep in the wilderness.

Guests can upgrade to fully-catered at an additional cost.

Our Chefs will prepare four delicious meals a day, including a light cold breakfast before the morning game drive, cooked brunch upon your return, an afternoon tea and a 3-course dinner. Meals are served on the terrace overlooking the waterhole, or alongside a communal firepit area.

We do also offer bush dinners at an additional charge should you be interested in a dinner with a difference. Please enquire with us.

ACTIVITIES

Two game drives take place daily and these are included in the rate.

Morning game drives are usually around 3 – 4 hours in duration with a slightly shorter afternoon drive that usually extends into the darkness, including a bit of a night drive in the hope of finding some of the more elusive nocturnal wildlife.

Your professional guide will also discuss with you the options of guided game-walks or a combination drive and walk. Make sure that you don’t miss out on the opportunity to visit and walk up the spectacular Eagle Rock!

Game such as Elephants, Lion, Leopard, Cheetah, spotted and brown hyena, a variety of Antelope, Bush Pig, Warthog and more may possibly be seen on Game Drives around the reserve.

Birders will be pleasantly rewarded with sightings of many species occurring in this camp’s habitat: Meyer’s Parrot, Meve’s Starlings, Southern Black Tit, African Mourning Dove, African Scops-Owl visit all year and summer brings visitors like Broadbilled Roller, Eurasian Golden Oriole, Woodland Kingfisher and Levalliant’s Cuckoo. Raptors include Little Sparrowhawk and Gabar Goshawk.
